EDDIE ALCARAZ

Station Manager, Air Personality and Garage Band rhythm guitarist

Jesus, basketball, radio, Christian rock, golf and motorcycles… All were passionate pursuits of Eddie as went through his life befriending just about everyone who crossed his path. Eddie was a natural organizer probably because he couldn't stand to be idle. If there was nothing going on, he would be the man to gather the people and make something happen. Fellowship wasn't just a word to him. It was a lifestyle.

As one radio station became two, Eddie "rose in the ranks" to become the Program/Music Director of KVTT while hosting Power FM's afternoon drive shift. KVTT was sold to Covenant Media in November of 2004 and Eddie had the choice to continue with KVTT or stay with Power FM. He stayed (of course!) and replaced outgoing station manager of KVTT/KVRK, Ron Evans.

Eddie had been working at KVTT for a couple years before I was hired in 1991. We immediatly hit it off with our mutual love of The Lord, broadcasting, music and our area sports franchises. We were truly brothers from different mothers and shared the same dream of being a part of a station that played the music that played a major role in our faith journey.

For the next 10 years Eddie managed the staff and hosted a 12PM to 3PM airshift. How you might ask? Well, gone were the days of physically handling every item that played on a station. Eddie was live in the noon hour but could record just his voice parts for the remaining 2 hours and they would play at the right time. He could then go back to his office to work all the while listening to himself. Once Power FM changed ownership to Way Media in 2015, Eddie was able to continue his career in radio by landing a job at KDKR in Fort Worth working for former KVTT employee now KDKR GM, Jerry Kotzman. That continued until the event that shocked and saddened us all.

Eddie went to be with his Savior when he was struck on his motorcycle in Grand Prairie, Texas by a vehicle that failed to yield. His body was laid to rest in Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas.

I told Eddie's mother at his funeral that I loved him very much and couldn't have and wouldn't have wanted to create Power FM without him. We were two sides of the same coin with different strengths and abilities that complimented each other. Really looking forward to playing golf in Heaven with him and another member of our weekly foursome, Tom Dooley.
